GS Industry is supporting the fourth edition of “Chef per Bene”, a charity evening conceived and organised by Vignato Events in support of the Oncology Department of the Vicenza Hospital: four of the most talented Italian chefs, all from Vicenza, will be cooking for 250 guests.
This time too, the beneficiaries of the initiative are the Amici del Quinto Piano (Friends of the Fifth Floor): a group of volunteers set up with the aim of supporting cancer patients, former patients and their families by involving them in activities related to culture, wellness, nutrition and the promotion of patients’ rights.
Thanks to the funds raised during the previous editions of “Chef per Bene”, it was possible to set up two important projects: “SeTA- Servizio di Terapia Alimentare” and “SPES – Servizio Psicologico Empatico Solidale”.
The first is a nutritional counselling service active one day a week and open free of charge to both patients in active treatment and follow-up. The aim is to help the cancer patient by providing guidance and nutritional advice tailored to the individual’s needs. The outpatient clinic is managed by Dr. Giaretta (together with Drs. Bonamonte and Busin), who has always been active on the subject of the relationship between nutrition and oncology, in collaboration with the medical director Dr. Aprile and the Oncology nursing staff. The outpatient clinic, established in 2017, carried out 387 visits from 01/01/2022 to 31/12/2022, 86 of which were first visits.
“SPES”, on the other hand, offers psychological support not only to the patient but to the entire family; the outpatient clinic is run by Dr Paola Onestini who, in 2022, met with 100 patients for a total of 456 meetings.
“In the era of precision oncology,’ says Dr. Giuseppe Aprile, Director of the Vicenza Department of Oncology, ‘humanisation for the cancer patient and his global care remain fundamental. We have responded to this need by activating the two outpatient clinics dealing with clinical nutrition and psychology: two free services dedicated to the cancer patient both during active treatment and at the end of specialist therapy. These services have met with the favour and enthusiasm of many hundreds of patients who have already been evaluated: some results will be presented at national oncology conferences. The scientific societies (AIOM and CIPOMO among them all) and the superordinate institutions are also sensitive to the problem: innovation can only be brought to the patient’s bedside if there is parallel support of the nutrition and emotional framework”.
“We are truly grateful to all those who, with donations, sponsorships, or with the gift of their qualified professionalism or simply with their attention, continue to make this important nutritional project possible,” says Francesca Lovato on behalf of the entire Group. “We would particularly like to emphasise how the generosity of so many is for us a sign of energy that gives strength and restores our conviction that we are part of a community that knows how to take charge of the problems and needs of those who face cancer illnesses”.
The two projects, like many other valuable activities promoted by the Amici del Quinto Piano, are in constant need of support: hence the idea of turning “Chef per Bene” into a format to be repeated every year.
The greatest exponents of Vicenza cuisine have enthusiastically accepted the challenge, designing an ad hoc menu for the evening under the banner of taste, balance and refinement.
Taking turns at the cooker will be starred chefs Carlo Cracco, Nicola Portinari, Corrado Fasolato and the famous, multi-award-winning pastry chef Francesco Ballico.
“It makes me proud to once again be among the chefs taking part in this special event,’ says Nicola Portinari, ‘I met the Group years ago and have never stopped working with them since. This time too, I have created an excellent brigade, involving many of my colleagues from Vicenza. It is nice to combine our cuisine with the concept of wellness.”
Many corporate sponsors, including GS Industry, contributed to the event by covering the costs of the evening and ensuring that the entire proceeds went to the Amici del Quinto Piano group.
